The Museum of Archeology and Ethnography was opened in Samsun in 1981, and is considered one of the most important tourist destinations in Turkey.
The museum consists of three halls, one of which is the main one where many artifacts are displayed, most notably the 3-century mosaic piece.
Among the most famous pieces of the museum are those that were found in excavations in 1995 in the city, which together constitute the treasury of Amisus.
The museum also includes many coins dating back to different periods of history such as the Classical, Romen, Byzantine, Seljuk and other periods.
Some rooms are dedicated to displaying ethnographic pieces that tell the story of the customs and traditions of ancient peoples such as textiles, clothing, and household items.

Things to do at Samsun Archeology and Ethnology Museum
• You can start strolling around the museum and the park surrounding it and take some pictures of the monuments on display and of the black sculptures surrounding the gates.
• Then start your tour inside the museum from the main hall that contains many artifacts, the most prominent of which is the 3-century-century mosaic piece.
From the main hall you can head to the room that houses the treasury of Amesus, and take some pictures of the attractive jewelry they contain.
• The exhibition includes some sculptures and stone statues dating back to different periods of history, which were discovered in archaeological excavations in the city of Samsun.
• You can visit the Hall of Coins, which includes pieces of gold, silver and bronze, as well as include some stone and tin coins.
Do not forget to visit the Ottoman Hall, which includes many textiles, weapons, household and handmade items, as well as some colorful glass artifacts.
You can definitely visit the Byzantine Hall and the Bronze Ages. You can also visit the Romen Hall, which houses a few parts of bronze sculptures and statues.
