The Alaska Marine Life Center, the first major aquarium in Alaska, and the only permanent marine mammal rehabilitation facilities in Alaska, on the shores of the Bay Resection Bay in Seward, Alaska State, in the United States. It has been open since May 1998 and is dedicated to understanding and maintaining the integrity of the Alaskan marine ecosystem through research, rehabilitation, conservation, and public education. It is the only facility in the world specifically dedicated to studying the northern marine environment and the only one that was initially designed to combine research, public education and visitor components. The Alaska Marine Navigation Center generates and shares scientific knowledge to enhance understanding and oversight of Alaska’s marine ecosystems.

The center operates as a private non-profit research institution and a public aquarium, with wildlife response and education programs. It generates and exchanges scientific knowledge to enhance understanding and oversight of Alaskan marine ecosystems. The Center is an accredited member of the Association of Zoos and Aquariums, and the Alliance of Marine Zoological and Aquariums. Built with funds from Exxon Valdez Oil Spill, this world-class facility of 115,000 square feet helps remind visitors – in a very interactive way – of the importance of understanding and maintaining the integrity of the Alaskan oceans. The center has cost about $ 37.5 million in funds for research and rehabilitation, and includes about 105 full-time employees, volunteer staff, and trainers.
