Safe island
A safe island is one of the Saudi islands located in the Red Sea, southwest of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, and it belongs administratively to the Jizan Governorate. The island is separated from the coast or the mainland by a distance of just over seven nautical miles, while it is about fifteen kilometers, southwest of the port city Jizan, the island has an area of approximately 1.1 km².
Geographical nature
A safe island extends longitudinally, such as the shape of an open arc towards the east or a crescent, to a maximum length of 2.4 km, while its maximum breadth reaches 544 m. Jizan and the Forsan Islands, surrounded by a barrier of coral reefs, while it includes many beautiful quiet beaches, fishing and diving can be practiced in some of its places, and visitors can reach the island, by renting a boat.
Official interest in a safe island
The Saudi Ministry of Local Government and Municipal and Rural Affairs presented a safe island within one of the investment projects, along with dozens of other islands administratively affiliated to Jizan, in order to enhance marine tourism on the shores of those islands, in addition to introducing the cultural heritage that Jizan is famous for, and the most important pillars of the project emerge. The following:
- Housing units, of varying size, overlook the Red Sea coast.
- Floating accommodation units.
- Spa.
- A port for boats and boats.
- A center for organizing and coordinating activities that can be done on the island, such as: diving, fishing, and sightseeing of dolphins.
- A site for marine sports.
Tourist attractions upon arrival on the island
- The possibility of renting chalets that accommodate families.
- The presence of bicycles in the resort areas for use by guests, to wander around the island.
- There are some restaurants that offer many meals, and it is difficult for fish not to be among them.
- Possibility to rent one of the villas overlooking the sea directly, and the other villas that are a little far from the beach, and contains a swimming pool.
- The sea corniche, or wooden corridor that runs along some of the residences on the island.
An ancient safe island
The island’s picturesque nature despite its small size attracted the people of Jizan and the areas near it since ancient times, as it was a safe island a haven for fishermen when faced with crises at sea, or a stop to rest in it, along with recreation, and enjoying its nature and its white sandy beaches.
