Killarney National Park is one of the most important tourist attractions in Ireland, as it is the first national park established after donation of dedicated properties to the Irish Free State in 1932.
The park has since evolved to cover 102,89 square kilometers of diverse environmental terrain, including lakes, forests, and mountains.
The park holds a high environmental value due to its multiple habitats and the diverse group of animal species in it, which includes very rare species.
The park was designated for the UNESCO Biosphere Reserve in 1981, until it was managed by the country’s National Wildlife Service.
