Friday Mosque
The Friday Mosque is considered a historical and cultural monument, and the largest religious building in Shamkhi. The mosque was destroyed and rebuilt several times due to earthquakes.
Originally built in the 8th century A.D., the mosque is the oldest mosque in Azerbaijan in general, and traces of ancient Islamic architecture appear.
The mosque’s exterior building consists of a large dome surrounded by four small minarets, two tall minarets, and three other small domes, one of which is above its entrance.
Shamkhi Observatory of Astrophysics
Shamakhi Observatory of Astrophysics is located in the northeast of the Greater Caucasus Mountains, and it is only 22 km away from the city center of Shamakhi Azerbaijan.
Its location has been carefully chosen on a slope 1500 meters above sea level, and the number of clear nights ranges between 150 to 200 nights per year.
A scientific library has been created inside the observatory consisting of two main halls, and it includes about 14,000 books, 2500 magazines, and some rare manuscripts.
Bergolo Reserve
Bergolo Reserve was established in 1968 on an area of 15.21 square kilometers, and it is one of the most beautiful regions in the southeast of the large Caucasus region.
The park aims to protect mountain forests, fertile soils and various rare herbs, as well as expand forest areas and prevent air pollution.
The reserve is 2,000 meters above sea level and hosts more than 60 species of animals, such as jungle cat, lynx, and deer.
Mausoleum of the Seven Domes
The Mausoleum of the Seven Domes, or the hands of gymnastics, is an ancient cemetery located in the south of Chamakh Azerbaijan, 1.5 km from its center.
Three of the seven shrines are still well preserved, while the remaining seven shrines are partially destroyed, with no domes and walls.
The mausoleum dates back to the beginning of the 18th century, and is a monument to an ancient family, and the building style belongs to the Shervan Absheron Architectural School.
Golestan Castle
Golestan Castle is located 5 km from the city center of Shamkhi. The castle was a strong structure surrounded by the walls of the Shirvan Palace.
According to the first archaeological discoveries, the construction of the castle dates back to the 9th century AD, and it was the last refuge of the Shervan dynasty in the Middle Ages.
The castle existed until the 16th century AD, but its structure was destroyed by numerous earthquakes, and its ruins remain so far.
Mirza the Great House Saber Museum
Mirza Al-Akbar Saber’s house is a memorial museum dedicated to the poet Mirza Al-Akbar Saber. It was established in 1962 AD on the centenary of the poet’s birth.
The museum is located in a two-storey building, which was demolished and rebuilt in 1978 AD, and reopened in 1979 as a museum for the public.
The total area of the museum is 293 square meters, and includes 6 halls and 3 balconies, displaying the life and journeys of the poet, collectibles, gifts, pictures and magazines.
Derry Baba Shrine
Deri Baba Shrine is a memorial to Sheikh Deri Baba, located in the town of Kubustan, which is 35 km from the center of the city of Shamkhi, Azerbaijan.
The shrine stands in a square on a cliff, a two-story building topped by a white spherical dome with a pointed head.
Archaeological research indicates that the history of the shrine dates back to 1402 AD, and is decorated with mosaic drawings by a calligrapher called Darwish.
