On this list, read about the top tourist destinations in Brisbane.
South Bank Parklands
One of the most popular places in the city, these parks boast almost everything: from fountains and squares to restaurants, cafes, and small street markets selling local arts and crafts. Alongside these impressive gardens are the charming Nepal Peace Pagoda Hotel and Courier Mail Piazza with lots of fun and free events.
These gardens also include Streets Beach, an impressive artificial lake, a grand plant-filled Grand Arbor, and a beautiful river promenade offering great views of the city.
Lone Pine Koala Sanctuary
If you are looking for the perfect Australian experience, no visit to Brisbane can be complete without stopping at the Lone Pine Koala Reserve. It is home to all types of Australian animals, with koalas and kangaroos to Australian girls and dogs (Dingo) and platypus.
Besides learning all about these creatures in the shows presented in the reserve, you can also feed the kangaroo, take a picture of koala, or even be a day guard. Opened in 1927, the reserve is the oldest and largest Koala sanctuary in the world and the largest, with more than 130 of this cute animal.
Coot-tha Lookout
Coot-tha Lookout means “place of honey” in the native language, and is the highest peak in the area with a height of 287 meters. The mountain is nestled inside thick rainforests, and is a great place for mountain walks. Enjoy many paths making its way across the foot of the mountain, given that most people drive straight to the top.
Located on top of the mountain is a kiosk where you can get food or drink, and provides a great viewing platform to enjoy one of the best views of Brisbane and surrounding areas. It is advised to arrive either too early to capture the spectacular sunrise scene, or when it is sunset to capture another spectacular sight.
Gallery of Modern Art
The Modern Art Gallery is housed in a distinguished building on the banks of the Brisbane River, part of the Queensland Cultural Center, and is one of the most prestigious museums in Australia. The museum, dedicated to modern and contemporary art, exhibits works of Australian and Asian artists, with temporary exhibitions held all the time.
In the exhibition, you discover a wide range that includes many wonderful topics, such as activism, indigenous rights and the environment. Sculptures and paintings are also displayed along with videos and photos.
