Coromandel Peninsula

Alpine Crossing “Tongariro”

Located at Tongariro National Park, this crossing is located in the center of North Island. This crossing is a full day excursion to cover the Tongariro Mountains and pass along the base of Mount Ngauruhoe. The crossing may be very special for filmmakers, as seen in scenes of the Lord of the Rings film filmed there. Blue Lakes and Emerald Lakes are major tourist attractions along the way, both of which are of historical importance to the local Maori people and therefore must be treated with the utmost respect.
