Bucharest

Bucharest ranks sixth in the list of major cities of the European Union, and includes among its neighborhoods more than three million people, in addition to being the main commercial, political and industrial center in Romenia, and the city is also considered one of the hubs for the transport of goods and individuals in eastern Europe.

Location and climate

Bucharest is located in a flat area in the southeast of the state of Romenia, on the banks of the Dempovista River, and it takes a semi-circular shape to include in its administrative area many suburbs that were rural until recently. The city also has many lakes, parks and gardens that make it one of the most beautiful cities in Eastern Europe. In the name of Little Paris or East Paris.

The climate in Bucharest is continental, characterized by windy winters where the temperature drops below zero to sometimes reach -20, with little snow, and in summer the temperature reaches forty degrees Celsius with a decrease in the rate of precipitation and the percentage of humidity, and some storms may occur in Spring and autumn, and it is noted that temperatures in Bucharest have been affected in recent years by global warming.

Population

Bucharest has a population of more than three million, in addition to the thousands of citizens who come to the city every day to work, especially from the nearby Ilfov district, and there are no official statistics indicating the exact numbers of these citizens.

The city witnessed a rapid increase in the population in the period that followed the city’s taking as the country’s capital, and that percentage continued to rise until the Second World War, which caused great damage to the city and the displacement of hundreds of thousands of its residents. In the second half of the twentieth century, Bucharest witnessed another wave of population increase during Nikolai Ceausescu, who worked on urban development and expansion, ruled along with decisions to prevent abortion and birth control.

The population of Bucharest, who constitute approximately ten percent of the total population of Romenia, is made up of large ethnic groups, and the Romenians constitute the vast majority of them, followed by Rome, then Hungarians, Turks, and Germans, in addition to a neighborhood for the Jews and another for the Greeks.

Economy

The industrial production in Bucharest represents a quarter of the country’s production, and contributes to the gross domestic product in almost the same proportion, which made the purchasing power of the city’s citizens double the percentage for the rest of the people in Romenia and more than the average for the rest of the European Union.

Although there was a recession in the nineties of the last century, the city witnessed a great development with the transition to a free market system, so infrastructure was developed and many marketing centers, residential buildings and business buildings were established, which significantly reduced the unemployment rate in the city.
