Sharjah has made great strides to provide tourist, cultural and entertainment destinations with world-class levels, to enhance the tourism product of the emirate, which seeks to achieve its vision of receiving 10 million visitors by 2021.
One of the distinctive places in the city of Sharjah overlooking the waters of the Arabian Gulf is the “island of light”, which is located in the arms of Lake Khalid, which is one of the most prominent tourist destinations that constitute the first project on the Arab level that mixes culture, arts, entertainment and the magic of nature in one place.
A natural haven without noise
The island of light abounds with many elements of tourist attractions, such as: “Diwan al-Adab”, Café Al-Nour, the children’s play area, and a group of works and contemporary artistic sculptures chosen, which were specially brought to the island from many parts of the world, but perhaps the most prominent distinguishes it from the facilities is “ Butterfly House ”.
On an area of 230 square meters, the “Butterfly House”, which is designed by Austrian artist Andre Heller, which reflects its distinctive design covered with a golden dome, extends from the outside as a form of traditional desert architecture in Arab countries with hot weather. This type of architecture is characterized by alternating design between glass and wood , And patterns illustrated by visual representations formed by the engineering intersections of light and shade, where Heller worked on the design of the covered structure inspired by nature for butterflies, which is the creative mind of the World Museum “Crystal Swarovski” in Austria.
Shelter of more than 500 moths
The House of Butterflies is considered a shelter for more than 500 butterflies, and its distinctive geometry depends on the idea of drawing with light (pixelastic), while its surface is adorned with golden metal motifs, which take close shapes of butterflies, and its walls and middle are adorned with green plants, especially climbers, and it is open On three sides, allowing natural light to enter.
The purpose of the dome, designed from 4000 pieces of aluminum, goes beyond the aesthetic only, as this cover helps to regulate the climate through shade and the passage of sunlight between the voids, and makes visitors feel that they are blessed with shades of trees.
