One of the most important tourist attractions in Jakarta, the Indonesian capital, is the Monas Tower in Jakarta. The monument is a symbol of freedom and independence, fighting Dutch colonialism and Japanese occuAl Bahahn in the hearts of the Indonesian people.
Construction work started on it in 1961 under the supervision of the President of Indonesia Sukarono, and it was opened to the public in 1975. The tower is located in an area of 80 hectares and contains lush yards, sports facilities, football fields and extensive parks.
It is 132 meters long and topped with a statue resembling a bonfire symbolizing the spirit of the Indonesian people who refuse to be extinguished and made of copper coated with 35 kilograms of pure gold, weighing 14.5 tons.
