Qasr al-Hayr, or Qasr al-Hira, is one of the most famous Umayyad palaces located in the territory of the Syrian Arab Republic, which was ordered to be built by the Caliph Hisham bin Abd al-Malik in the Badiyat al-Sham region, namely Qasran, Qasr al-Hayr al-Sharqi, and Qasr al-Hayr al-Gharbi.

Landmarks of the eastern Heer Palace

In the center of the Badia in Syria this palace is located, in the northeastern side of the city of Palmyra, and it is 105 kilometers away from it, and also from the city of Rusafa sixty kilometers away, and the discoveries that took place during the Abbasid period confirmed that this palace was converted from a break to the caliph Umayyad, to become a city of its commercial nature.

The palace forms an integrated city, which is two palaces, a large square-shaped palace, which extends over an area of ​​11200 square meters, and 170 meters the length of its side, and its outer walls supported by a number of towers of semicircular shape of 26 towers and the diameter of one tower is four meters Each corner consists of four towers, and we find six towers found in each wall, except for the main facade of the palace, it is mediated only by two towers, the shape of which is semicircular, surrounding both the vestibule and the door and their task is to protect the entrance to the palace, where we find in the courtyard what is known as the open courtyard, which is surrounded by A two-story hallway, carried on stone arches.

In this palace there are a large number of rooms with a large room, and these rooms are located in the eastern part of the palace, and we find the rooms distributed on two floors, formed on separate clusters and have separate entrances, in addition to the servant rooms and also the mosque.

What distinguishes this palace is the presence of four opposite entrances from each other, with a width of three meters, and cross beams with a horizontal shape, in addition to the presence of a lobed arc of the heart and a pointed shape.

As for the small palace, its shape is also square but irregular, and its length is 70 meters, and we find it surrounded by stone walls supported by twelve semicircular towers, and what distinguishes this palace is the presence of a single entrance in it, mediated by a stone arch with decorations.

Western Heer Palace

In the southwestern region of Palmyra, which is located in the central region of the Badia Al Sham in Syria, this palace is located, specifically on the crossroads between the city of Raqqa, the city of Damascus, the city of Homs, as well as the Arabian Peninsula, and away from Jabal Al-Rawaq a distance of sixty kilometers.

This palace was erected as a place of ruins for a monastery, which was dating back to the Ghassanid period, and was previously called the name (Zaytuna). As for the name Al-Hayr Al-Gharbi, it came as a metaphor for the name Al-Hayr Al-Sharqi.

This palace was built in a square shape, its ribs ranged between 70 meters and 71 meters, and its area is 4970 square meters, and the outer wall that was built in the form of a paramilitary is distinguished, in which we find circular towers located in the corners of the palace, except its northwestern corner From it, its shape is square. As for the outer wall of the palace, it is made of stone piers and is two meters high.
