The Seven Wonders of the World

The wonders of the world are the group of installations, historical and natural monuments that stunned the world with its beauty and splendor of design throughout the various eras, numbering seven. There are the seven ancient wonders of the world; most of them were subjected to removal due to many factors; the most important of which are natural disasters, while other features were classified, to be among the seven new wonders of the world, in addition to the presence of seven natural wonders, and in this article we present an overview of the ancient, modern and natural ones.

The Seven Wonders of the Ancient World

  • The Three Pyramids of Giza: It is located in Egypt, and its lifespan dates back to more than two thousand years BC, and it still exists today.
  • Lighthouse of Alexandria: It is considered the first lighthouse in the world; it was erected during the reign of Ptolemy II, with a height of one hundred and twenty meters; and was destroyed by an earthquake.
  • Hanging Gardens of Babylon: Its construction dates back to the year 600 BC by Nebuchadnezzar, and its height before its disappearance with time ranged between twenty and ninety meters.
  • Giant Rhodes statue: It was established in Greece in two hundred and eighty BCE on the land of Rhodes Island. It is thirty two meters high and totally destroyed by an earthquake.
  • Statue of Zeus: It was carved in Greece four hundred years BC, twelve meters high, and its effects disappeared as a result of a fire.
  • Artemis structure: It is one of the famous temples in Turkey, has been burned and destroyed more than once; its remains are still in the British Museum, and part of it was used in the construction of the Saint Sophia Church in Istanbul.
  • Halkarnas Mausoleum: It is a great burial constructed by Queen Artemis for her brother and husband, and some parts of it remain in the British Museum and the Turkish city of Bodrum.

  • Great Wall of China: It stretches for eight thousand eight hundred and fifty kilometers along the northern and northwestern borders of China, and is the largest wall on the surface of the earth.
  • Colosseum in Italy: It is the largest monument and terraces built by the Romens, and was used in ancient times for fighting and wrestling, and parallel to its height is a building consisting of fifteen floors.
  • Petra in Jordan: It is one of the impressive civilizational achievements carved by the Nabataeans in the sixth century BC, and was rediscovered by the Swiss Johann Birkhart in 1812 AD, and Petra is called (Las Vegas) the ancient world.
  • Chichen Itza Pyramid in Mexico: Its history dates back to the Mayan civilization, and its height is fifty four meters, and it was discovered in the late nineteenth century.
  • Machu Picchu in Peru: The city was built by the Inca people in the fifteenth century, and is located the highest Andes in Peru, at a high altitude of more than two thousand meters, and the city is characterized by its picturesque nature.
  • Christ’s statue: It is one of the architectural masterpieces traveling with chariots on the top of the Corcovado Mountain in the Brazilian city of Rio de Janeiro.
  • Taj Mahal in India: It was built by Shah Jehan to commemorate his wife, and it took about twenty years, which is one of the great testimonies of Islamic architecture in India.

The Seven Natural Wonders of the World

  • Great Amazon River: Which penetrates the countries of Peru, Colombia, and Brazil in South America.
  • Ha Long Bay in Vietnam: Which extends for a hundred and twenty kilometers.
  • Iguazu Falls: In Brazil and Argentina, it is one of the largest waterfalls in the world.
  • South Korea’s volcanic island of Jeju: Rarely, the temperature drops below zero Celsius.
  • Komodo National Park: In Indonesia, the most important thing distinguishing Komodo dragon.
  • Table Mountain in southern Africa: It overlooks Cape Town, South Africa.
  • Puerto Princesa Underground River in the Philippines: It is the longest sea river in the world.
