In which governorate is Petra located

Petra is located in the Ma’an Governorate in the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan, on the western side of the desert road that connects the capital with the city of Aqaba, and the city of Petra is 225 km south of the capital, Amman.

There are many historical and archaeological monuments in the city of Petra, including the following:

  • Siq: It represents the main road that connects to Petra, and its start at the dam and its end at the treasury, and it is a road that extends between mountains and quirky shape, and its length is approximately 1200 m, and its width ranges between (3-12) m. As for its height, it reaches 80 m.
  • Dam: The dam was used by the Nabataeans to protect the city of Petra from flooding during the winter, and was rebuilt by the Jordanian government in 1964 AD in the same Nabatean way and in the same old place.
  • The Tomb of Obelisks: It is a two-storey building, the second floor of which dates back to the first century AD and contains a room where five graves are buried.
  • Silk Vault: Its construction dates back to the first half of the first century A.D., and its facade is 11 meters wide and 19 meters high, and its facade has four different columns that stick to the wall.
  • The theater: Its history dates back to the first century AD, and is located in the heart of the city of Petra, it is carved in the rocks except for the front part of it and is built in a circular shape drop 95 meters high and 23 meters high.
