Church of Esztergom Basilica

The Church of Aztecum is the most important historical and religious landmark of the city. It was established by order of Stephen I in the 11th century in a distinctive medieval style.

This church is the third largest church in Europe and is characterized by its majestic location on a hill 100 meters above sea level, overlooking Slovakia, and it also has basements built in the style of ancient Egyptian architecture.

Esztergom Castle Museum

The Castle Museum was built inside the Azturgum Castle that was built in 1070, above the ruins of an ancient Romen castle. This attractive medieval castle rises above the slopes of the Danube.

Most parts of the castle were destroyed during the wars with the Ottoman Empire, and what remains of it today are defensive walls, some passages, arches and gates, and this architectural complex turned into a museum that tells the history of the city.

Mária Valéria Bridge

The Maria Valeria Bridge was established in 1859 to connect the city of Aztrogum with the city of Storovo in Slovakia. The bridge is 500 meters long and attracts visitors to take pictures and see the city.

The city of water

The city of water is one of the religious monuments of Aztorgum, it is an episcopal neighborhood on the right bank of the Danube near the Azturgum Castle and it was created by order of Archbishop Matthias Rato.

This region includes a group of Ottoman monuments established by the Ottomans such as baths and mosques, including the oldest Ottoman mosque on the Danube, and also includes several historical palaces from the Baroque and Neoclassic periods.

Szechenyi Square

The Zhishinia Square in Aztorgum is blessed with a major historical position, as it was the central market place in the Middle Ages and also houses the City Hall, a historic building established in the 16th century.

The square also includes a group of monumental buildings in the style of Rococo, Baroque, Neoclassic, sculptures, fountains, and the area listed on the UNESCO Heritage List.

St Stephan Square

St. Stephen’s Square is an area between the hill of the Aztrogum Castle and the cathedral, an area that includes historical architecture such as the Episcopal Palace, Old Palace, and other monumental buildings and sculptures.

Danube Museum

The Danube Museum was established inside a historical building dating back to the 18th century, and shines in the style of Baroque architecture and includes various exhibits and scientific and interactive displays with multiple media explaining all the physical, geographical and historical information about the Danube.

Dark Gate

The Dark Gate is a tunnel under the cathedral that links the bishops’ houses to the cathedral. It was established in 1824 and was called the Dark Gate because there is no light source inside it at the time. The tunnel has a neoclassical style.
